Q. WHICH KID COMFORT (KC) CARRIER IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Deuter offers four carrier models to meet a range of uses and budgets.

  • The Kid Comfort 1 retails for $199 and offers a safe, lightweight, no-frills pack.
  • The Kid Comfort Air retails for $239. Features the Aircomfort mesh back system, offering maximum ventilation for hiking in warmer weather. A little heavier than the Kid Comfort 1 but still very maneuverable.
  • The Kid Comfort 2 retails for $249. It features a pivoting hip belt for increased comfort. It also has the Aircontact ventilation system, the same technology used on our high-end backpacks.
  • The Kid Comfort 3 retails for $299 and offers a deluxe ride, the same harness and ventilation as the KC 2, an integrated sunshade, and extra storage.

Q. HOW OLD DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BE BEFORE WE CAN START USING OUR KID COMFORT?

As soon as your little one can sit up and control her head, she can ride in the Kid Comfort. Usually this happens around six months of age.

Q. HOW DO I KNOW IF THE SEAT IS HIGH ENOUGH?

Your kid’s chin should be level with the top of the chin pad. This way he gets a great view, plenty of room to stretch his arms, and a perfect snooze/head holder if he nods off! Adjust the seat by tightening or loosening seat height strap, which is located almost directly in front of your little one.

Q. I’M 5’2” AND MY HUSBAND IS 6’3”. DO WE NEED TO BUY TWO SEPARATE CARRIERS?

Heck no! Look, we’re parents, too. We know the term “disposable income” is synonymous with “well-rested” once the kids come. In other words, no way do you need to shell out for two packs.

Q. GREAT. SO HOW DO WE ADJUST THE ONE CARRIER FOR THE TWO OF US?

1. Shoulder Harness. Adjust the harness with the Vari-Quick system. Here’s how:

  • To move the Vari-Quick harness, release the velcro and unthread it, then adjust it to your desired location.
  • Thread the Vari-Quick through the four most suitable attachment loops. Not one. Not two. Not three. FOUR. Failing to thread through all four straps is the most common mistake made when adjusting the harness.
  • Position the Vari-Quick so it is between your shoulder blades.

2. Hips!
Adjust the hip belt so that the padded part is directly over your hipbones.

3. Tighten up.
To tighten the shoulder straps, pull shoulder stabilizer straps (the threaded nylon by your elbows) snug. This will pull the pack closer to your back. Note that most of the load should still be on the hip belt.

Q. WHY IS MY PACK TIPPING WHEN I WEAR IT?

Just remember the number four. It is important that you thread the Vari-Quick shoulder harness through four adjustments loops. Any less than four can cause the pack to tilt sideways.

Q. CAN I PUT THE PACK ON WITHOUT ASSISTANCE?

It's definitely easier to have someone help with putting the pack on, and taking it off.
But sure you can fly solo! Here’s how:

  • Draw the pack up to your knee.
  • Carefully maneuver one arm through a shoulder strap and slip the carrier onto your back.
  • Secure the hip belt and then thread your arm through the other strap.

Check out the video on how to put the Kid Carrier on properly.

Q. HOW DO I KNOW THAT MY CHILD IS SECURE?

Follow the yellow buckles. When everything’s in place, your little one will look like she’s sporting a parachute harness.

  • Snap shut the child sternum strap.
  • Tighten up the straps so they fit snugly, like car seat straps.
  • Next close the side access and cinch the seat forward.

Q. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO TO MAKE THE PACK MORE COMFORTABLE FOR MY CHILD?

There is an optional Sun Roof and Rain Cover available for all the Kid Comforts and the Kanga Kid.

Q. WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM LOAD FOR THE KID COMFORT?

The maximum capacity is 48.4 lbs (or 22 kg). This weight assumes about 40 lbs for your child and 8 lbs of bits and pieces that you have stowed in the various pockets/storage compartments in the pack.
