NFC stands for Near Field Communication. It is a secure standard of RFID technology, specialized for short distances.
NFC is also used in payment options such as EC cards, credit cards or services like Apple Pay and Google Pay. The technology is also used a lot as a supplement to Bluetooth. For example, when pairing wireless headphones.
In the case of deuter, thin self-adhesive chips are used. These are passive. This means that the chip does not store or send anything. The chips are linked with information (a URL). As soon as an end device such as a smartphone sends out an NFC signal and is close enough to the chip, it throws back the stored information as an "echo".
NFC is currently compatible with all Android smartphones (including tablets) with OS version 4.0 or higher. In the case of Apple, devices from the iPhone 7 onwards are compatible.
Some devices are already capable of reading NFC without an additional app, as long as this is activated. Older devices in particular usually still require an additional app.

No, our NFC chip is a passive RFID chip that does not send any signals.
There are special regulations when carrying it as hand luggage as well as checked luggage. This technology is also used by airlines to track luggage.
No data are saved on the chip. This way, strangers won’t be able to read any data from the chip. All stored data (contact information, further registered products) are stored on an external database and managed by Deuter. These data will also not be passed on at a later time. Deuter only uses the data for marketing purposes (e.g. newsletter) after having received consent to do so.
