Lightweight down sleeping bags from deuter: highest quality standards for maximum sleep comfort

Down sleeping bags are hard to beat when it comes to pound-for-pound warmth. Under the stars, below freezing temperatures and you still get a warm and cozy night’s sleep. Especially on hiking trips that span several days in winter. But for camping in the outdoors through the summer and even bikepacking, a down-filled sleeping bag offers the perfect combination of maximum sleep comfort, optimized insulation, and small pack size / low weight. For traveling through dry and colder climatic environments, nothing beats a down sleeping bag.
Down feathers have excellent moisture management properties. They absorb moisture and wick it away. But care should be taken in high-humidity areas and where it’s likely to rain a lot. The down fill can end up clumping together, which impairs its insulation performance. In areas prone to persistent rain, or with bodies of water, or in the Tropics, down sleeping bags are therefore not the ideal choice.

If you fold or roll your sleeping bag, then the same areas, seams and fibers will become worn and kinked. By stuffing your bag into its sack, you ensure the compression is always random. Down sleeping bags for men & women: The right fit for the best insulation

The way your down sleeping bag fits is an important factor in how well it will insulate. If it’s too long or too wide, it will take longer for your body heat to warm up the dead space. If it’s too narrow or short, you will end up overly compressing the down in certain sleeping positions or with your body weight, resulting in cold bridges. As body size is often the main difference between men and women, deuter offers women's sleeping bags for shorter people of all genders with narrower shoulders. The men’s sleeping bags (or regular fit), tend to be longer than the women’s models.

The damp and cold from the ground can rise up and make a big difference. Also, make sure you don’t go to bed with sweaty or damp clothing on, and eat well so that your body has the energy it needs to generate heat.

Lightweight deuter down sleeping bags for moderate temperatures

Looking to buy a down sleeping bag for the summer that weighs under 1 kg? If sleeping under the stars in below-freezing winter conditions isn’t on your bucket list of things to do, then our down-filled sleeping bags with a Comfort temperature rating of between 10° and 0 °C are the right choice for you. These are also known as 3-season down sleeping bags because they are suitable for spring, summer and autumn camping. Note: The number that features in the name of the various models represents the fill weight. The higher the fill weight, the warmer it is, and the lower the temperature you can spend a comfortable night’s sleep in it.

Astro 300
This summer sleeping bag with down fill is good for using in ambient temperatures of 7° down to 3 °C, so it’s perfect for summer nights camping or hiking from hut to hut. The sleeping bag weighs less than 800 grams including its stuff sack and takes up very little space inside your backpack. It’s also good for spending cozy nights in your van or motorhome. The EL model offers those who are 200 cm tall (or 6’6”) plenty of space to move about in the night.

Astro Pro 400
The Astro Pro 400 down sleeping bag is suited to temperatures down to 4 °C. Its Comfort temperature rating is 2 °C. Weighing just under 900 grams, and with packed dimensions of just 14 x 33 cm, these sleeping bags are ideal for multi-day adventures in spring and fall. The special PowerBox construction in the foot area means this sleeping bag’s down filling stays in place no matter how much you move in your sleep and won’t become compressed. A water-repellent finish at the head and foot keeps these sensitive areas dry. For taller people, there is the EL (extra long) model. And for women, there is the SL (slim line) model, designed to suit the female anatomy and heightened sensitivity to the cold.

Astro 500
The Comfort temperature rating of the Astro 500 is 1 °C. The Limit temperature rating, which means you’ll have a restful sleep if wearing the correct clothing, is -4 °C. So, if there’s potential for an unexpected cold snap while you’re camping, or you need to plan for big variations in temperatures, then the Astro 500 is a great sleeping bag for the transitional seasons. There’s a choice of EL (extra long) and SL (slim line) models too, for the perfect fit and therefore a good night’s sleep. Weighing just over 1000 grams and with packed dimensions of 18 cm x 35 cm. Which means this down sleeping bag will fit in any hiking backpack.

Astro Pro 800
A Comfort temperature rating of -8 °C: with 800 grams fill weight of down that lofts perfectly for a cozy night’s sleep in winter. And come the morning, it’s easy to pack away too. Weighing just over 1300 grams and packing down small, this down sleeping bag is good for backpacking and trekking. The Astro Pro 800 is also available in an SL and EL model.

Astro Pro 1000
It doesn’t get warmer than this! A 4-season sleeping bag for extreme winter conditions. With the Astro Pro 1000 you’ll have a warm, restful night’s sleep in winter temperatures down to -18 °C. This ultra-warm down sleeping bag will accompany you on backpacking trips and mountaineering expeditions and on tough winter hikes. This is a professional-grade down sleeping bag – also available in SL and EL versions.

Responsible Down Standard: Certified feathers for all deuter down sleeping bags

We care about animal welfare. The down and feathers we use in our sleeping bags comes exclusively from farms and producers that comply with the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). This ensures that the geese do not suffer in any way and produces the best quality down with particularly good lofting capabilities, and therefore better insulation. The down we use comes from northern China, from fully-grown free-range geese that are reared for the food industry. Live plucking is strictly forbidden. Their down is a by-product of meat production. And force-feeding is also banned, because fois gras is not considered a delicacy in China, and there is therefore no demand for it. All RDS criteria and the traceability of the supply chain are checked by independent certification bodies during unscheduled visits.
